The College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong Background The College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong was incorporated in February 1993 whose main objectives are: to promote for the public benefit the advancement of knowledge in the field of Dental surgery and its associated subjects (Dental Surgery) to act as an authoritative body for the purpose of consultation on matters of educational or public interest concerning Dental Surgery to promote training and research in Dental Surgery Membership Membership of the College is divided into Fellows (including Hon Fellows) and Ordinary Members. Specialist Training Since its inception the College has worked towards its goal of organizing dental specialist training pathways and setting up benchmarks for our profession. Currently eight specialties (Orthodontics, Paediatric Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Family Dentistry, Community Dentistry) have been recognized by the Academy of Medicine. Each, but Community Dentistry, has hosted its own Conjoint Intermediate Examination (with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh) for College trainees. The continuous education of dental professional is also a central goal for the College. The College Fellows are required to achieve a minimum of 90 Continuous Medical Education points (through professional education activities endorsed by the CME subcommittee) over a period of three years. The adoption of the proposed Vocational Training Pathway in Dental Primary Care leading to the Membership in General Dentistry by the Committee of General Dentistry has another landmark step taken by the College to cater for the desire of many general dentists who seek higher qualification and career betterment. Annual Event The College organized an Annual Scientific Meeting and Spring Scientific Meeting featuring renowned speakers around the world and the yearly event has been warmly welcomed by College Fellows, members and guests.
